Field Of Ten Expected For Belmont

belmont-stakesWith less then two weeks to go until the June 5th Belmont Stakes, the window to announce the field for the final leg of the 2010 sports betting Triple Crown is closing, with a couple of prominent names projected to lead the grouping leading in to the race. It is expected that there will be ten horses named to the field at Belmont Race Park. However, only four of those starters will have had previous Triple Crown experience, including Ice Box, First Dude, Make Music For Me, and Stately Victor.

The field is expected to be wide open, after the respective announcements from the owners of the winners of the first two legs of the Triple Crown, that both Super Saver and Lookin At Lucky will not run in the horse betting Belmont Stakes. Lookin At Lucky trainer Bob Baffert announced the Preakness Stakes winner would not run almost immediately after the latest win. Instead, Baffert will be represented by Lone Star Derby winner Game On Dude. Other horses expected to enter the race include Star Spangled Banner, who last placed third in the Withers on April 24th, and Distorted Humor, which despite the long shot label will be ridden by two-time Eclipse award winning jockey Garrett Gomez.

Ice Box and First Dude look to be the frontrunners when the full field is announced next week. The Belmont Stakes is the longest race of the three Triple Crown events, where strength and stamina matter most, two traits those horses have demonstrated in the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
